Basecamp Integration confirmation / success?? 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago
|
|
|
Hi,
I currently use basecamp and am evaluating conceptshare, specifically its ability to integrate with my existing projects. However, I put my details in conceptshare (not sure if the domain field is correct but i put my basecamp url there as liveline.projectpath.com) and have no way of knowing if they are correct when pressing save...
To test, i goto a test workspace and see if my projects are listed but i cannot get them to appear...i have created a unique user as well for this purpose, but to no avail...pls help?
Thanks,
Kyle

ok, i found it!
even though when i setup the new user in basecamp i ticked 'give this user permission to all projects', i stil had to go back and add the user to live projects. now as i add my new user to projects in basecamp i can see them appear in the drop down...
not sure why conceptshare recommend using a unique user when from my perspective it would make more sense and require less mgmt when setting up projects if i were to use the credentails of the project mgr in charge of managing basecamp and conceptshare projects!
thoughts / comments on this proposed method? i would like to use this way internally but if there are known issues i would like to know what they are so i can make informed decisions...
thanks,
Kyle

Hello,
The only reason we recommend using a unique user is for the following scenarios:
- Some users change their passwords frequently. Forgetting to update your ConceptShare BaseCamp Integration password we have on file will cause the integration to break when you change your password.
- Whenever we post messages, and comments from ConceptShare to BaseCamp it will appear to be posted by the user we have set for the integration. If you choose a 'regular' user it may appear that they are commenting / creating messages extensively even though it just ConceptShare pushing information to BaseCamp.
If you are ok with these caveats then by all means you are free to use whichever user you like for your BaseCamp integration.
I will also look at adding a 'Test' button to the Account Settings page where you can test your BaseCamp credentials right on that page, thanks for the feedback.

that explains everything! thanks for the quick reply...i think i will avoid these issues and just take the extra step of manually managing the list of projects available to concept share and let the messages/notifications come from my 'concept share' unique user for now...
thanks again!
